About Me
I am new to raising Mini Rex.... I aquired a REW Sr. Buck at a show in Ft. Worth. He was our first. His name is Psycho and at the time his name fit him well. But since that time he has calmed down greatly and has produced some wonderful stock. Mostly REW's and Broken Blacks.... We love him dearly as he was our first. I have raised Netherlands and Havana in the past and still do, but am focusing more and more on the Mini Rex as it seems as though now that this as been my appointed breed by the kids when we show in the Open shows. I have two nieces who this became a support project and has blossomed into much, much more. I raised the Havana for the oldest and the Netherlands for the youngest and when we aquired Psycho he was first shown by the oldest. Now that this breed has gone from one to twenty in less than 6 months with colors including broken black, castor, broken chin and REW it seems as though this project has become more of a family thing. The oldest will graduate this year and she will be moving up to the open shows so it has become game on between me and her. She shows the Havana's for herself, competes against mom with Thriiantra and competes agains me her aunt with the mini rex..... It has become more fun than you can imagine. I remember showing as a young child into my early teens but it was only against kids my age and we didnt have the family competition going on. Now that this generation has come up they want to compete agains us older ones. It's fun to have the ribbing in the end as to who won or did better than the other and neither of us need a BOB to do it. As long as one is in 5th and the other further back that is enough for us.... I am glad to be able to share with others with this breed and hopefully learn a little more about them. But how much more is there to learn about care and upkeep other than what color to breed with what in order to get the correct end results. And while we are on that subject maybe some one can explain the castor color to me a little more and what to breed it with....I hope to be able to eventually join the mini rex club, and I'd like to say thank you to Diane Stovall of Top Hat Rabbits for begining this new adventure for us and also let her know that come Sept in Duncan Okla she won't even begin to recognize Psycho as he has become a totally different rabbit than the little rabbit she gave us back in Ft. Worth. It has been alot of fun. I see in the very near future where our barn will house nothing more than mini rex and a couple Californians for the county show meat pen exhibit. When begining this project I went back into Netherlands as it was a familiar breed as that is what we raised as kids, but now it seems as though the Mini Rex are becoming a large part of our family and it has won my heart over quickly. The above rabbit Arrow is a product of Psycho he was his first son...... Post a CommentOops! The words you entered did not match the given text. Please try again. 1 Comment |
